Somewhere out there in between the spaces of our perception, there is a Michael Bunch who lives in dire poverty in a developing nation and begs for help to meet his basic needs.
In another, there is a Michael Bunch who has great wealth and power, prestige and arrogance who has lost touch with all reality in regards to human suffering.
Somewhere in the middle is the me that is me right now. My life seems to follow the “middle path” to quote the Great Buddha. I am neither wealthy, not poor and to be honest it is a pretty good place to be.
Through a lifetime study of the Social Sciences I am acutely aware of social problems, inequality, and the problems of Americans versus the developing world. I see how the rich are hoarding resources, encouraging the consumption of everything on the planet for short term profits and I wonder how long this can continue?
The alternate universe Mike I would most like to be a part of would be as a member of a tribe of American Indians back before Columbus came. To know true peace and harmony with nature would be amazing. We have lost so much of this identity over the years and it really was about the best we ever had.
Well, I guess it would be a toss up between being in a Native American tribe and being one of my cats, now that I think about it….Those silly beasts have it made!
