Sometimes I feel like I am two different people. I have grind mode me and relaxation me. When I am in grind mode, I wake up early, workout, run, get to work early and am extremely goal oriented. When I am in relaxation mode though, different story. I like to lounge around and watch Netflix with my girlfriend, mess around with my pets, and generally try to avoid doing anything super serious.

As a teacher, I think I am a bit of an adrenaline junkie. Teaching can be such a rush because it requires one to use every ounce of spirit, intellect, and emotion at times. I think that is why I enjoy it. It is the same reason I enjoy snowboarding at 40 mph down near vertical surfaces, it’s the adrenaline baby!

At some point though, I have to give myself a break and that is something I have somewhat mastered as well. The art of being lazy and unproductive, being able to shut off that type A personality for a bit, before it runs one into the ground is absolutely essential!

Thanks for reading Bunchiesblog! I hope you have a fantastic day! Check out some of my other articles if you have a moment!

  1. I can relate to both modes as well – both have their place. The adrenaline rush of a 40mph snowboarding session sounds like a lot of fun ✨🏂 and we could all probably do with a bit more fun as well, to balance out the grind lol.

  2. Wonderful post sir, happy Diwali 🪔🎇

  3. Teaching, and school in general, really is theater, isn’t it?

As teachers, we have to put on our best face every day; give 110% of ourselves, I never let it show that anything is bothering us.

Students, on the other hand are always out there to impress each other. The one on one dynamics I get with most of my kids is vastly different than the way I see them act around their peers.

    1. It certainly feels that way. I think pur whole concept of raising children in a conpartmentalized fashion creates a lot of problems.

  4. Fantastic blog post, Mike! You know how to relax whenever you are in “relaxation mode.”

  5. How true
We are so many in one

    👍👍

  6. Gotta put up with the wrong nonsense to enjoy the right nonsense. 😕

    1. For sure, it just has to stay in balance.

  7. Wow, snowboarding huh? I read your blog and I enjoy seeing your take on daily questions and your post as a whole. Didn’t see that coming. Lol.

    1. Yes sir! Taste death…live life!

  8. I can so relate to a grind mode and relaxation mode. The only difference I have is that I like personal freedom instead of being chained to tasks given by an unkind master

  9. I think lots of people have grind mode and relaxation mode. I guess it’s about getting the balance right. Thanks for sharing

  10. Totally feel you. Working in sexual health as a BDSM mentor, and teaching (although a totally different subject to you!) is something that I love to do. I love helping people, the compassion, the curiosity, the realisation when they understand. Is it something I imagined I’d ever do? No, but long story short, it was something that my hushand felt I should do, I am loved for what I do, and I love doing what I do. I don’t run or go to the gym, but my day does consist of morning swims and home workouts instead. At the same time though, I love clocking off, I love relaxing and rough-housng with the dog, I love just… not doing. Not doing anything, nothing at all, perhaps slobbing around on the sofa and watching some Rick & Morty. The really funny thing is I am a Type A married to a Type B, and I think we needed one another to show us a better balance. I hope the future is bright and happy for you and yours 🙂

  11. Ours is not to do or die, ours is just to pacify. If you are working you do what they want you to do to get the money to do what you want to do. If you get it right and choose the right job and have the right people there no job is a grind, it is an amusing thing you do before you do the things you want to do.

  14. I totally get that feeling like you are two different people!

  15. I totally get the feeling of two, three, or even four people. Somedays it is just hard to even feel or find the relaxation person.

  17. I think about this almost daily. If I think too much about it, I start to panic…

    1. We have so much pressure to deal with, it is really tough to find a balance.
