Red flags for me when it comes to people are lying about things, first, disrespecting people for no reason and blaming others for one’s own faults.
When this combination of character traits is present, I generally am very wary of this person because they are not playing by the rules I follow, so I don’t feel like I can trust them.
Trust is the foundation of all relationships, so when that is gone, there is no relationship.
I follow yours but can you follow mine.

I had a lot of trouble trying to get a young person under my care to appreciate the value of honesty. She habitually lied to me and other people. And I told her that if she continues that way, it might be tragic because strong and good relationships are based on trust, and trust is founded on truth. And if truth is absent, there’s no character and meaningful future to talk of.
Absolutely, kudos to you for taking that on. Sometimes you lead them to water and they are not ready to drink.
